Do I have to pay anything?+

No. Joining the closed test costs nothing.

Why must I use the same Google account?+

The tester group grants access to that Google account, and Google Play checks the same account before showing the app.

Is this Android only?+

Yes, this campaign is specifically for the Android version distributed through Google Play. Apple iOS is coming soon.
